On May 27, 2014, at the birthday of the city of Saint-Petersburg, there was the Honoring ceremony for the laureates of St. Petersburg Government and St. Petersburg Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences for outstanding scientific achievements in the field of science and technology, as well as the award of the Government of St. Petersburg for outstanding achievements in higher and secondary vocational education.
The ceremony was attended by the Governor of St. Petersburg Georgiy Poltavchenko, vice-governor of St. Petersburg Vasiliy Kichedzhi, representatives of the scientific community, heads of universities and secondary specialized educational institutions. Congratulating the winners with the highest award, Georgiy Poltavchenko said: “The award is a tribute to your work, creativity and respect with which you come to work and share knowledge and experience with young people”. The Governor stressed that since its founding St. Petersburg has been and remains the leader of the national science and education. “Today, we are more than 10% of the country's scientific potential. 16% of the economically active population of the city works in professional education sphere. Contribution of St. Petersburg scientists and teachers is felt in every sector of the economy, industry and urban economy, in all spheres of city life. We are grateful to St. Petersburg scientists and educators who are helping us to build a “knowledge economy”, — said the Governor.
Prize for scientific achievements that improve the quality of training and highly qualified personnel was awarded to the authors of the Federal Almazov Medical Research Center Evgeniy Shlyakhto and Elena Baranova for the work “Development and implementation of a system of continuous postgraduate medical education based on the concept of translational medicine”.
17 prizes were awarded in the field of science and technology and 18 awards were given in the field of education, including copyright collectives. Prizes were awarded to 60 St. Petersburg citizens, but in general, for all the years that prizes are awarded, 534 people became winners.
