The XXV Congress of Russian Pediatricians with international participation themed «Current Problems in Pediatrics» was held in Moscow from 1 to 3 March. Specialists discussed scientific and practical aspects of the development of pediatrics, nutrition of children in health and disease, immunoprophylaxis of infectious diseases in pediatrics. The congress also covered other important topics such as perinatal medicine, neonatal surgery, vaccination of premature babies, rare diseases, heart disease in children and adolescents.
The congress brought together about 10,000 participants from different regions of Russia, including pediatricians, pediatric specialists, healthcare executives, as well as scientists, university teachers, students, residents and postgraduate students. There were 175 symposia, expert meetings, plenary sessions, round tables, lectures by academicians and professors, panel discussions, interactive sessions on topical problems of pediatrics.
The specialists of the Institute of Perinatology and Pediatrics and the Maternal and Child Health University Clinic gave lectures presenting modern research and best practices in pediatrics. Their participation in the congress provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with colleagues from other medical institutions and to make a valuable contribution to the development of pediatric medicine.
The transition of children with severe cardiac conditions to the adult network, and the associated challenges, has become an area of particular interest to practicing pediatricians and pediatric cardiologists, as well as to the pediatric healthcare executives and the expert community.
Prof. Leila Namazova-Baranova, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Research Institute of Pediatrics and Child Health Protection of the RAS Central Clinical Hospital, Chief Pediatric Specialist in Preventive Medicine of Russian Ministry of Health, President of the Union of Pediatricians of Russia, presented to the plenary session a report on the state of pediatric science and prospects for its development in Russia.
There is a growing interest in the prevention of chronic diseases, in particular, in the programming of health formation trajectories. This was the subject of the presentation by Dr. Elena Vasichkina, Head of the Research Centre for Unknown, Rare and Genetically Determined Diseases at the WCRC for Personalized Medicine, «Optimal cardiovascular health trajectory in children», which was in line with modern scientific trends in Russian and world pediatrics.
«The themes of the Congress are particularly relevant and consistent in the Year of the Family and the Decade of Childhood, as they directly address the important aspects of child development in the context of family support, emotional well-being, health and personality formation. Addressing issues such as mental health, education, social interaction and physical development is particularly important for the successful formation of a child in a family and as a citizen of society as a whole,» said Tatyana Pervunina.
