From 26 to 28 May, Bakulev National Medical Research Centre of Cardiovascular Surgery in Moscow hosted the Annual Scientific Session and the 1st All-Russian Cardiac Surgery Summit, themed ‘Gold Standards in Cardiovascular Surgery’. The event brought together a large number of specialists from leading national medical centres and the largest clinics in the country, representing various specialties in cardiovascular surgery, endovascular surgery, cardiology and other related specialties.
During the three days of the scientific forum, sessions, roundtables, symposia, master classes and discussions were held on topical issues in modern cardiovascular surgery. These included treatment of aortic disease, peripheral vascular disease, coronary artery disease, heart failure, congenital and acquired heart defects. Summit participants shared their own cases, presented analyses of global trends and the current state of the art, advanced technologies and the latest opportunities in cardiac surgery, interventional surgery and basic medicine.
The specialists of the Research Department of Vascular and Interventional Surgery, headed by Dr. Mikhail Chernyavsky, took an active part in the scientific event. In the session on «Modern approaches to surgical treatment of patients with chronic lower limb ischaemia», researcher Almaz Vanyurkin gave a presentation on the experience with endoscopic vein harvesting in femoropopliteal bypass, highlighting the main advantages of the unique technology implemented at Almazov Centre. The session on modern approaches to surgical treatment of patients with lower limb ischaemia presented the experience of modern endovascular treatment of the aortoiliac occlusive disease using a new technique of peripheral stent grafts. The breakout session entitled “Surgery of aortic diseases in the XXI century – from open surgery to robotic and endovascular technologies” presented the accumulated experience of Almazov Centre’s vascular surgeons in the endovascular treatment of one of the most complex aortic diseases – thoracoabdominal and juxtarenal aneurysms.
The second day of the conference focused on modern approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart disease in patients of different age groups. The presentation by A. Gorbatykh, Head of Interventional Surgery Research Laboratory, provided an opportunity to comprehensively review the hybrid and endovascular methods of surgical treatment of patients with septal heart defects.
“Almazov Centre is one of the top medical centres in Russia for treating aortic and peripheral artery problems with endovascular techniques. The presentations from the Research Department of Vascular and Interventional Surgery were really well received by the congress chairs and experts, which shows how important and relevant this problem is and how important it is to support the development of technology. It is a great chance to learn, share ideas and engage in intellectual dialogue with professionals from all over the world,” says Dr. Mikhail Chernyavsky.
