On October 8, 2013 Perinatal center held a master class for physicians dedicated to modern approaches to the treatment of uterine fibroids. Experts from Veliky Novgorod, Kaliningrad, Vologda, Syktyvkar, Arkhangelsk and Petrozavodsk attended the video conference. The total audience was about three hundred people.
The lecture “Innovative approach to uterine fibroids treatment” was made by the Head of Operative Gynecology Department of Ott Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, PhD V. F. Bejenari.
Workshop specialists followed on-line translation of two operations: surgical treatment of endometriosis and laparomyomotomy-arranged in Almazov Federal Centre. The surgical treatment of endometriosis was carried out by Pediatrics and Perinatology Deputy Chief of Federal Almazov Medical Research Centre, MD Eduard Komlichenko; laparoscopic myomectomy was made by Professor V. F. Bejenari, commented by Doctor Komlichenko.
This operation is known for hundred years, but doctors use it infrequently as it is quite complicated technically and not many clinics have surgeons who master the technique. In Russia doctors admit, only a few dozen surgeons perform this operation in nodes complex arrangement.
Myomectomy is most often carried out to young nulliparous women to save the uterus. There are two variants of the operation: laparoscopic when it is performed through a small incision using special instruments under camcorder control, and laparotomy or abdominal when operation is performed by the surgeon hands.
The most obvious advantages of the laparoscopic method — less blood loss and faster recovery after surgery. But it requires very high skill of the surgeon and the hardest part — “quality” to sew the uterus so that the seams not separated during pregnancy and child delivery.
We hope that such workshops will become a good tradition of Federal Almazov Medical Research Centre and develop partnership with major perinatal centers in other cities of Russia and abroad.
