WHO/Europe International Conference on Cardiovascular Diseases in St.Petersburg, 19-20 November 2015
WHO/Europe International Conference on Cardiovascular Diseases started in St.Petersburg in Almazov Federal North-West Medical Research Centre on November 19-20. Organizer of the conference is the WHO Regional Office for Europe.
Leading experts discussed prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases according to the World and European programmes.
Speakers from the UK, Croatia, Malta, Norway, France and other countries shared their experience in organizing special programmes. Main discussed topics were:
- the evidence for what can be achieved in prevention of CVD through population-level prevention on major risk factors and determinants, and the balance with individual-level interventions.
- heart attacks and strokes, quick diagnosis and treatment that can save lives and reduce or prevent damage to the heart or brain.
- the evidence for secondary prevention and rehabilitation as well as for individual-level prevention
- cardiometabolic risk assessment and management.
Leading world experts in CVD, preventive medicine and NCD participated in the meeting. In total, representatives of 30 countries participated in the conference.
Director of the Division of Noncommunicable Diseases and Promoting Health through the Life-course Dr. Gauden Galea made a welcoming speech on behalf of the WHO Regional Office for Europe.
President of the RSC and general director of the Almazov Centre Prof. Evgeny Shlyakhto greeted participants on behalf of the Russian Society of Cardiology.
Prof. Sergey Boytsov, RSC vice-president, director of the National Research Centre for Preventive Medicine, Russian Federation and director of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Development and Implementation of Noncommunicable Disease Prevention Policy and Programs, presented on «Trends, challenges and issues in cardiovascular disease prevention and control in Russia».
