On November 15-16, 2013 Federal Almazov Medical Research Centre held VIII Interdisciplinary Conference in obstetrics, perinatology and neonatology “Healthy woman- healthy newborn” dedicated to the 200th anniversary of birth of Alexander Alexandrovich Keeter (1813—1879).
Co-Chairs of the Organizing Committee were MD Dmitry Ivanov, Director of the Institute of Perinatology and Pediatrics of Federal Almazov Medical Research Centre, Chief freelance neonatologist of Russia and MD Elena Baybarina, Head of the Department of children health care and obstetrics service.
Conference Executive Secretary were MD Irina Zazerskaya, Deputy Director of the Institute of Perinatology and Pediatrics of Federal Almazov Medical Research Centre and Yuri Petrenko, Neonatal Physiology and Pathology Research Laboratory Head.
Some conference sessions were held in Simulation Center of Federal Almazov Medical Research Centre and covered the topics of medical education; other sections reviewed current approaches to cardiopulmonary resuscitation in infants, children, pregnant women and mothers. Plenary sessions presented the main trends and problems in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics and neonatology. Special focus of the conference was on the relevance of such issue as the influence of perinatal period on further adult development. The conference reflected neonatal surgical problems, including birth defects of the cardiovascular system as well as diseases of musculoskeletal system in infants and children.
This year conference was attended by foreign partners from Sweden — professors of Karolinska Institute: Tommy Linne, Olle Söder, Lennart Nordstrom, Gunvor Ekman-Ordeberg, from France — Jacqueline Conard, as well as guests from Moscow, Ivanovo, Samara, Minsk, Cheboksary, Taganrog, Arkhangelsk, Moldova, Yekaterinburg, Perm — more than 170 speakers all over.
During two conference days the guests not only met, exchanged professional experiences and discussed prospects for further cooperation, but also enjoyed the beauty of Saint-Petersburg, the cultural capital of Russia.
At the end of the first day of the conference, participants were invited to the grand opening ceremony in the «Last Palace» on the Moika. Welcoming addresses to the conference by the director of the Institute of Perinatology and Pediatrics D. O. Ivanov, executive secretary of the conference I. E. Zazerskiy. Also welcoming speeches were made by chief neonatologist Moscow and other regions of the Southern Federal District of Russia. Foreign participants of the welcome speech said Professor Olle Söder from Sweden.
