On April 21, 2017, the Lithuanian-Russian Round Table on Cardiovascular Surgery was held in Kaunas in the framework of the «Days of Saint-Petersburg in Kaunas».
The two cities — St. Petersburg and Kaunas — have historically close ties: an agreement on cooperation between the cities was signed in 2007, and Memorandum of Cooperation between Federal Almazov North-West Medical Research Centre and the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences was signed in 2016.
The programme included different events: from cultural projects to educational activities and discussions in medicine and politics. Leading specialists were invited to take part in the «Days of St. Petersburg in Kaunas» to exchange experience and the latest achievements with the colleagues from Lithuania.
Within the Lithuanian-Russian Round Table on Cardiovascular Surgery the following specialists from the Almazov Federal Centre made presentations:
- Prof. Mikhail Gordeev, Chief Cardiac Surgeon at the Almazov Federal Centre, Head of Research Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Head of the Chair of Cardiovascular Surgery, Chief Cardiovascular Surgeon of the Russian Ministry of Health in the North-West Federal District: «Surgical aspects in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy»
- Dr. Anna Kostareva, Head of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics: «Molecular-genetic testing in modern cardiology»
- Dr. Mikhail Chernyavsky, Head of the Research Department of Vascular and Interventional Surgery: «Hybrid Technologies in Aortic and Peripheral Artery Disease».
From the clinic of the University of Health Sciences in Kaunas the following specialists took part in the discussions:
- Prof. Rimantas Benetis, Director, Clinic of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery
- Prof. Kestutis Stasaitis, Head of Emergency Medicine Department
- Prof. Remigijus Zaliunas, Rector of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences
As a result of the discussions, the colleagues exchanged their experience in aorta and peripheral arteries surgery and came to the decisions to conduct joint research work and treatment of elderly patients and patients with multilevel lesions of the aorta and peripheral arteries, and to initiate a joint database and patients’ registry.
