Delegates from Saint-Petersburg and other cities of Russia (Novosibirsk, Obninsk, Irkutsk, Kovrov, Rostov-on-Don, Moscow) as well as colleagues from Tadzhikistan and Belarus took part in the event.
The seminar joined together experts in different areas (surgeons, nutritionists, endocrinologists, anesthesiologists, somnologists) that allowed considering obesity and metabolic disorders as a mutidisciplinary problem. 21 speakers presented their talks within a 5-day period.
Amonth the issues that were discussed during the event were the following:
- morbid obesity as a surgical problem;
- working with bariatric patients;
- metabolic effects of bariatric surgeries;
- technical aspects of different bariatric interventions;
- impact of bariatric surgery on diabetes mellitus type 2.
Direct broadcasting were organized from the operating rooms: intragastric balloon installation and removal, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass laparoscopy and a master class for anaesthesiologists. Internet broadcasting allowed colleagues from other regions follow the master-classes as well.
Traditionally, the seminar aroused lively interest among the specialists who could exchange knowledge and experience thanks to the intensive joint work.
