The Almazov Federal North-West Medical Research Centre was renamed into the Almazov National Medical Research Centre.
The renaming was recommended by the Scientific Council Board of the Russian Healthcare Ministry after auditing the institutions under its jurisdiction. The Centre will be included into the network of 20 national institutions.
Cardiology and Angiology will be the main specialities of the Almazov Centre. According to the order of the Russian Ministry of Health, the Centre will function as a national medical research institution and perform organizational and methodological supervision of other institutions specialized in the areas. Furthermore, it will develop professional standards, federal state educational standards in medical higher education and coordinate training of specialist, including teaching staff, in the specified specialities.
In addition, the Almazov Centre will take part in development of clinical guidelines (treatment protocols), standards of medical care and quality assessment criteria.
