On September 16 – 21, the XXIII World Congress of Neurology 2017 took place in Kyoto, Japan co-hosted by the Japanese Society of Neurology and the Asian and Oceanian Association of Neurology. This year theme was “Defining the Future of Neurology”.
The Prince and the Princess of Japan greeted the participants of the Congress that attracted special attention and emphasized social significance of the event.
The Almazov National Medical Research Centre presented its experience in the following projects:
- Dr. Tatyana Alekseeva, Head of Department of Nervous System Diseases, spoke on the problems of neuromuscular pathology: myasthenia gravis and Hirayama disease (a rare variant of the lower moto neuron disease).
- Scientific findings of the Polenov Neurosurgical Institute in the field of epilepsy were presented by Dr. Galina Odintsova, a senior researcher of the Research Laboratory of Epileptology at the Research Department of Clinical Neurophysiology and Epileptology.
- Dr. Dmitry Ovchinnikov, Chairman of the Young Scientists Council, in his poster presentation covered the problems of cognitive dysfunction in coronary surgery.
During the Congress, 10 presentations showed research findings of the Almazov National Medical Research Centre. 2 residents of the Department of Neurosurgery D. Sarsembaeva and A. Zhigalov received travel grants from the World Federation of Neurology.
