On March 23 to 24, the Almazov Centre held the 2nd Saint Petersburg Forum on Control of Overweight and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
Obesity is a growing problem in today's society as it poses a serious threat to people’s health. It is frequently associated with concomitant diseases (type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia, musculoskeletal diseases, reproductive disorders) that reduce the overall life expectancy and increase the risk of disability.
The goal of obesity therapy is to not only reduce the body weight, but also to treat the related metabolic disorders, improve the quality of life and increase the life expectancy. The Forum mainly focused on the efficiency of various overweight treatment options and dispelled some myths associated with obesity therapy.
The Forum was attended by the experts in various specialties involved in the treatment of overweight and diabetes. There were 28 speakers from 14 organizations and 5 cities of Russia.
On March 23, the conference on improving medical care for patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus took place. It engaged patients as active participants who have managed to achieve a lasting and long-term weight loss, including after bariatric surgery. Their stories were a unique part of program and provided invaluable insights to both obesity-related specialists and people who are looking for ways to lose weight.
On March 24, the forum for patients was held. The participants obtained comprehensive information about the advanced methods of treating overweight and type 2 diabetes mellitus, gained insights into successful obesity treatment and were be able to choose the optimal way to lose weight.
Around 300 people attended the event.
