On March 16 to 20, the 33rd Annual Congress of the European Association of Urology (EAU18) took place in Copenhagen, Denmark. This Congress is the largest and most important scientific event that annually attracts about 15,000 specialists in urology and related specialties from all over the world.
The 5-day scientific and educational programme was a combination of events in various formats according to the needs of all participants and included plenary and sectional sessions, thematic sessions, live surgery sessions with 3D/HD broadcasts, practical courses and trainings, as well as visits to an extensive exhibition where companies from around the world presented their latest technological and pharmaceutical advances.
The specialists from the Department of Urology and Robotic Surgery of the Almazov Centre took an active part in the Congress. At one of the sessions, D. Fedorov, the specialist of the centre for robotic surgery, gave a presentation entitled “Preserving of periprostatic anatomy influences the early continence rate more than preserving of neurovascular bundles: A comparative study of three robot-assisted radical prostatectomy variations.”
During the Congress, the specialists of the Urology Department attended training courses delivered by the world’s leading experts and received international certificates in various fields, such as robotic surgery of the kidney, bladder and prostate, reconstructive urology, urogynecology, neurourology, adrenal surgery. They also took training courses focusing on targeted and fusion biopsies of the prostate, treatment options available for pelvic organ prolapse, and much more. The Russian and foreign colleagues held several meetings to discuss the topical issues in science, education and applied medicine.
