On April 24, the Almazov Center hosted joint events with the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences and Kaunas Clinic as part of Kaunas Days in St. Petersburg. The event was attended by Prof. Rimantas Benetis, Head of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Department at the University of Health Sciences, and Dainius Numgaudis, Consul General of the Republic of Lithuania in St. Petersburg.
The programme included a scientific symposium on the problems in cardiac surgery and a round table discussion on the organization of medical education.
The symposium featured the following presentations:
- Translational Approaches to Surgery for Aortic Diseases by Vladimir Uspensky
- Genetics of Today's Cardiology Practice, Experience in New Technologies/Hybrid Approaches: Kaunas Experience by Prof. Rimantas Benetis
- From Surgery of Arrhythmias to Neuromodulation by Evgeny Mikhailov
- Medical Education at the Almazov Centre, General Medicine Training Programme by Olga Sirotkina
During the meeting, Mikhail Chernyavsky, Head of Vascular and Interventional Surgery Department, presented a virtual tour around the hybrid operating room with online broadcasting of endovascular aortic aneurysm repair surgery.
The participants of the round table Medical Education Today and Tomorrow discussed possible joint projects in educational and scientific areas. Olga Sirotkina, Deputy Director of Medical Education Institute, described the organization of educational process at the Almazov Center, including the new doctors’ training programme for General Medicine specialty. Professor Benetis outlined the structure and strategy of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences.
Kaunas Days in St. Petersburg are held under the bilateral cooperation agreement and organized with the assistance of the External Relations Committee under the St. Petersburg Government.
