From April 19 to 21, Saint Petersburg hosted the 6th Global Educational Forum Russian Cardiovascular Days organized by the Russian Society of Cardiology (RSC).
The Almazov Centre was the venue for this large-scale event. Traditionally, the Forum brought together the leading Russian and European experts on the way to strengthening cooperation between the Russian and European societies of cardiology.
The opening ceremony featured a welcome address by the co-chairs of the scientific committee: Prof. Michel Komajda, University Pierre et Marie Curie, Hôpital Pitié Salpêtrière, France, and Prof. Evgeny Shlyakhto, Director General of the Almazov Centre, President of the Russian Society of Cardiology and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Evgeny Shlyakhto recalled that the Russian Society of Cardiology was facing the task of international integration within the professional community, bringing the Russian cardiology to the most advanced levels through cooperation with peers from other countries.
“For 6 years, Russian Cardiovascular Days have embodied the cornerstone idea of practice-oriented events, with interactive discussions of specific clinical cases covering the most complex aspects of cardiovascular diseases,” highlighted Evgeny Shlyakhto. “The webinars and electronic systems used in Russia have become an integral part of the RSC projects and help spread the achievements presented at the Forum, both in Russia and abroad.”
The three-day programme included scientific symposia with online streaming sessions, lectures and clinical case discussions based on the latest guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology.
The Forum covered different aspects of CAD, infectious endocarditis, arrhythmia, pulmonary embolism, heart failure, and cardiovascular prevention. A special focus was on the latest clinical guidelines on atrial fibrillation, peripheral artery disease, dual antiplatelet therapy and STEMI as well as imaging in cardiology and implantation of medical devices.
The Forum also included a poster session and an exhibition of medications, specialized medical journals, diagnostic and therapeutic tools.
