Prof. Evgeny Shlyakhto, Director General of the Almazov National Medical Research Centre will be awarded with the Gold Medal of the European Society of Cardiology at the inauguration ceremony of the annual ESC Congress in Munich (August 25-29, 2018). This exciting news was announced by Prof. Jeroen J. Bax, President of the ESC, during his visit to St. Petersburg.
The ESC Gold Medal is the highest award of the Society given as the international recognition of the outstanding achievements and scientific excellence in Cardiology. Annually, one or two ESC Gold Medal recipients are honoured at the inauguration ceremony of the ESC Congress for their exceptional contribution to the world cardiovascular medicine.
Since 1968, the European Society of Cardiology has recognized such outstanding scientists and clinicians as Eugene Braunwald (USA), Philip Poole-Wilson (UK), Valentine Fuster (USA), Salim Yusuf (Canada), Peter Sleight (UK), Pedro Brugada (Spain), Alain Carpentier (France). So far, the only Russian cardiologist honoured with this award was Prof. Evgeny Chazov (Moscow).
