In May 2017, the Almazov Centre took part in MAY MEASUREMENT MONTH 2017 (МММ17) — a global initiative on arterial hypertension screening. The Lancet Global Health has published the results of this multinational screening campaign in its May issue.
May Measurement Month was initiated to raise awareness of arterial hypertension for its timely detection and treatment. The data were collected from 1,201,570 individuals in 80 countries.
Prof. Alexandra Konradi provided organizational and methodological guidance for the campaign in Russia. Eleven Russian cities took part in MMM17: Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Belgorod, Bryansk, Kemerovo, Krasnoyarsk, Samara, Saratov, Stavropol, Ulyanovsk and Surgut, with a total of 1,532 individuals screened.
The Almazov Centre was a screening site in St. Petersburg and performed the screening under the guidance of the Russian Society of Cardiology. The young cardiologists of the Centre measured blood pressure and determined arterial hypertension risk factors in the relatives of the patients treated at the clinic as well as in the staff who have not checked their blood pressure for year or more.
According to the findings of the global campaign, 34.9% of individuals were hypertensive, 46.3% of those who were receiving antihypertensive treatment had uncontrolled blood pressure and 17.3% of participants with increased blood pressure were not receiving antihypertensive treatment.
