On June 14, the official delegation of the Almazov Centre visited Stockholm (Sweden) to extend the Memorandum of Understanding with the Karolinska Institute for another five-year period.
The scientific collaboration between the Almazov Centre and the Karolinska Institute has been evolving for more than 15 years in areas of research such as atherosclerosis and restenosis after endovascular procedures, pathogenesis of ascending aortic aneurysm and formation of bicuspid valve, cardiomyopathies and congenital hereditary conditions as well as research in physiology and experimental animal models.
Over the last few years, the areas of cooperation have expanded, and together with the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, the Almazov Centre has launched research projects in pediatrics, pediatric endocrinology, disorders of sex development, fetal surgery and diabetes in pregnancy. During this collaboration, the specialists from the Almazov Centre completed four international academic degrees at the Karolinska Institute.

— Prof. Alexandra Konradi, Deputy Director General for Research
— Elena Parmon, Director of Postgraduate Education Institute
— Anna Kostareva, Director of Molecular Biology and Genetics Institute
During the visit, the two parties signed the prolongation agreement of the Memorandum of Understanding until 2023 to continue and further develop cooperation in postgraduate and specialist training programs, IT and genetic engineering technologies.
After the official signing ceremony that took place in the office of Prof. Ole Ottersen, the President of the Karolinska Institute, the delegates of the Almazov Centre took an opportunity to meet the organizers of medical education at the Karolinska Institute and visited the most innovative research and clinical facilities of this renowned Swedish university.
