On July 18–19, Polenov Neurosurgical Institute — the branch of the Almazov Centre — held an international workshop on endovascular neurosurgery Treatment of Complex Aneurysms and Cerebral AVMs.
Professor Edoardo Boccardi, the invited consultant from Italy, is one of the world’s recognized experts in endovascular neuroradiology.
The program of the workshop included four live cases. Two cases involved the placement of a flow-diverter stent. Flow diverters are used for the treatment of giant aneurysms that are difficult to reach by open surgery. The second day was devoted to treating arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) using a non-adhesive liquid embolic agent, SQUID.
Besides, professor Boccardi gave lectures and presented the experience of his clinic in treating two groups of patients with aforementioned conditions.
The necessity of this event is based on the need to enhance the skills of diagnosing and treating complex cerebral aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations as well as to share the recent knowledge and methods for high-tech medical care among the specialists of local and regional vascular surgery centers. Such workshops contribute to clinical and research knowledge of all attendees through sharing of experience and implementing of advanced European technologies in Russia.
