The 13th European Congress on Epileptology took place in Vienna from August 26 to 30, 2018. This biennial meeting was organized by the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE).
The Congress attendees had a unique opportunity to meet with the experts in various fields of epileptology and learn first-hand about the latest developments and advancements in basic and applied research.
The delegation from the Almazov Centre was led by the expert researchers in epileptology from the Polenov Neurosurgical Institute (branch of the Almazov Centre): Prof. Mikhail Alexandrov, head of Research Department for Clinical Neurophysiology and Epileptology, and Prof. William Khachatryan, Chief Researcher of Pediatric Neurosurgery Department. Several postgraduate students of neurosurgery chair took an active part in the Congress.
The specialists from the Almazov Centre presented 17 posters. The diverse topics included key areas of research in epileptology with a focus on the surgical methods of treatment. The posters covered the following areas: epilepsy surgery, status epilepticus, clinical neurophysiology, clinical semiology, epidemiology, neuropathology, epilepsy in women. The poster presented by Prof. Alexandrov et al. was among the best posters that received the highest scores at the Congress.
The Congress inspired its participants to continue their research efforts in epilepsy neurosurgery, which has been one of the focus areas for research across the globe recently.
