On January 15–17, the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration in Moscow hosted the 10th Gaidar Forum 2019, Russia and the World: National Development Goals and Global Trends.
The Gaidar Forum is a major annual international expert economic conference established in 2010 in commemoration of Egor Gaidar, an architect of Russian economic reforms, to bring together experts, leading academics and politicians, influential members of the financial community and the global business elite. The forum provides platforms to discuss important problems of our time, and most pressing social and economic issues. The emphasis of the Forum lies on the most acute current global challenges with a focus on Russia's place and strategic role in the world.
Evgeny Shlyakhto, Director General of the Almazov Centre, took part in two panel discussions of the Forum devoted to healthcare.
The panel discussion Digital Healthcare: The Future is Now focused on the possibilities of using digital technologies: from the electronic medical appointment booking, which has already become standard, to the application of a complex of artificial intelligence capabilities in the development of drugs and VR technologies in training. These technologies improve the availability and quality of health services and help to manage healthcare more effectively. The following issues were discussed:
- Single system and single platform: how do we move from multiple systems to a single one?
- The best is the enemy of the good: where won’t digitalization improve results?
- The economics of digital healthcare: what are the sources of investment and the expected return?
The second panel discussion 85 Projections of the National Healthcare Project moderated by Veronika Skvortsova, Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, focused on the topics related to the development of the Healthcare National Project in accordance with the Executive Order of the Russian President on National Goals and Strategic Objectives of the Russian Federation to 2024. As part of the new practice of implementing national projects, the regions themselves will have to develop their own programs and performance targets. The participants discussed the following issues:
- First steps and priorities, challenges and opportunities
- How can we use the potential, experience and specific features of regions to achieve the Executive Order’s goals and performance targets?
Evgeny Shlyakhto spoke about the aspects of digitalization in healthcare and medicine on Sputnik radio (Russia Today new agency) broadcasting as part of the Forum.
