On October 7–9, Shumakov National Medical Research Centre of Transplantology and Artificial Organs (Moscow) hosted the 4th Russian National Congress with international participation Transplantation and Organ Donation.
The event brought together transplant surgeons, thoracic surgeons, general surgeons, cardiologists, nephrologists and transplant coordinators. The chief transplant surgeon of St. Petersburg, head of Thoracic Surgery Research Laboratory at Almazov Centre, thoracic surgeon German Nikolaev and transplant surgeon, cardiologist, junior researcher at Cardiopulmonary Testing Research Laboratory Maria Simonenko attended the Congress.
At the workshop Solid Organ Transplantation: Solved and Pending Problems, Maria Simonenko gave a presentation “Infectious complications in the early period after heart transplantation”.
The Congress covered various issues of transplantology: recipient management tactics in early and long-term follow-up, including the experience in treating rare post-transplant complications and various comorbid conditions, prospects of transplantology (mechanical circulatory support, biomarkers for the diagnosis of rejection crises, etc.)
Also, the participants had a chance to learn about the first experience of launching transplant programmes in healthcare facilities throughout Russia. The Congress featured the 9th All-Russian Conference Scientific Schools and New Names that presented the results of research aimed at improving the early and long-term outcomes after solid organ transplantation.
