This annual event organized since 1996 has long acquired the status of a nationwide scientific and practical conference and is one of the most important events ensuring knowledge continuity, exchange of professional experience and promotion of scientific ideas.
Traditionally, the conference arouses great interest among not only Russian, but also foreign members of the professional community. It brings together neurosurgeons and neurologists, specialists in rehabilitation medicine, clinical pharmacologists, psychiatrists and representatives of biomedical sciences.
This year’s event took place as part of the programme for the development of World-Class Research Centre for Personalized Medicine.
In his welcome address to the participants of the conference, Director of Polenov Neurosurgical Institute (branch of Almazov Centre) Konstantin Samochernykh emphasized that this event is of high scientific importance and this year’s anniversary conference commemorates the memory of the outstanding neurosurgeons who were at the origins of the neurosurgical service in Russia.
The conference took place in Park Inn by Radisson Pribaltiyskaya. During the days of the event, the participants were able to present to the fullest extent the experience gained in various aspects of prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation in neurosurgical patients. They discussed such topics as pediatric neurosurgery, modern research for the successful recovery of patients after brain injury, neuro-anesthesiology and neuro-resuscitation, neurological injury, management of patients with epilepsy, control of intracranial pressure, neuro-oncology.
The participants also explored the possibilities of neurorehabilitation and neuropsychiatry as well as the issues of molecular neuroscience.
Particular attention was focused on the discussions on spinal, vascular and functional neurosurgery, surgery of peripheral nerves.
The conference also featured a master class titled “Neuropathy of the Facial Nerve: From Neurosurgery to Rehabilitation.”
Participants from various specialties actively contributed to the discussion of the issues of neurosurgical and neurological conditions in terms of interdisciplinary interaction, challenging aspects of neurophysiological diagnosis, modern approaches to the rehabilitation care for patients as well as the experience and results in the management of patients with various diagnoses, patient-tailored treatment and preventive measures.
A total of about 1,000 registered participants attended the conference.
