From December 6 to 7, Moscow hosted the 20th Congress of the Society of Heart Failure Specialists (SHFS) bringing together doctors of various specialties.
The opening ceremony started with congratulatory speeches by Director General of Almazov Centre and President of the Russian Society of Cardiology Prof. Evgeny Shlyakhto, President of SHFS Yuri Belenkov and Chairman of SHFS Board Prof. Vyacheslav Mareev. The meetings were devoted to the most topical issues of diagnosis and management of heart failure patients with particular emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach and analysis of the recent European and Russian clinical trials. This year’s congress received great attention from the medical community. The specialists of Almazov Centre delivered 10 presentations, presented 5 posters and gave lectures that sparked interest and lively discussion among the audience.
Artem Kostomarov, first-year clinical resident doing research under supervision of P. Fedotov, lead researcher at the Research Laboratory of High-Tech Methods for Heart Failure Treatment of Heart and Vessels Institute, took part in the traditional Young Cardiologists Contest. Elizaveta Skorodumova representing one of the hospitals in St. Petersburg won this contest. Larisa Prokopova, researcher of the Heart Failure Research Department, took part in the session of young heart failure specialists. The session provided a platform for the exchange of experience of Russian heart failure clinics presenting unique data on the effectiveness of the outpatient and hospital alliance system established at Almazov Centre.
