On December 10, the first meeting of the Medical Council under the Governor of St. Petersburg was held. The Council members are 30 chiefs of large clinics and medical universities of the city, including Director General of Almazov Centre and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Evgeny Shlyakhto.
At the first meeting, the Council members discussed the implementation of the Healthcare and Demography national projects as well as improvements to the system of primary and specialized medical care in St. Petersburg.
The city governor Alexander Beglov requested the participants to submit proposals on the work of the Medical Council within two weeks emphasizing that the new body should determine the areas for developing medicine in the city and seek ways of interaction between federal, city and private clinics.
It is supposed that one of the major tasks of the Council will be to discuss all future reforms in healthcare. The Council will have its meetings at least once a quarter.
