The WHO European Conference on Screening took place in Copenhagen on February 11th and 12th. The meeting was aimed at generating knowledge and providing tools to improve screening practices and policy decision-making related to screening.
The Conference participants were WHO Secretariat team from global, regional and country levels as well as policy-makers from Member States, technical experts and representatives of WHO collaborating centres, including Almazov National Medical Research Centre.
Oksana Rotar, Head of Research Laboratory for the Epidemiology of Noncommunicable Diseases and an active contributor to the HEN report, co-chaired the “CVD Screening” session.
The experts discussed political, social, commercial and technological drivers of screening. Specialists from different countries shared their experiences regarding the legal, ethical and financial consequences of screening, health literacy.
The meeting resulted in the publication of key facts in support of sound screening strategies and screening practice as well as a short guide on screening programmes.
