The Work Group comprises the heads of the largest healthcare facilities in the city, scientists and experts who will help in developing methods for diagnosing the virus and treating the disease.
At the meeting held at Almazov Centre, St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov instructed the Work Group to develop a unified algorithm of actions during the epidemic.
The Work Group is tasked with integrating the competencies of all participants and creating the conditions for timely information. For this purpose, Almazov Centre will establish a remote advisory centre on the diagnosis and treatment of novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and pneumonia in St. Petersburg.
The meeting set out the tasks on expert proposals on ensuring the sufficient bed capacity in hospitals, opening of new hospitals, involving federal institutions in the delivery of medical care and creating stand-by bed capacity.
One of the major tasks for the Work Group is to form expert groups and a list of experts from among the chief visiting specialists, chief executives and leading scientists of scientific institutions and universities of St. Petersburg in all main areas requiring special procedures for providing medical care and special clinical guidelines in the context of the spreading infection caused by novel coronavirus (COVID-19), as well as on the diagnosis and drug therapy.
Alexander Beglov instructed the members of the Work Group to update the protocols for the examination, treatment and prevention of coronavirus.
«We must ensure the availability of all types of emergency and acute medical care, and the ability to timely admit patients in all areas of medicine,” highlighted the Governor.
In the near future, the Work Group should determine the procedure for routing patients with suspected coronavirus infection and with an already confirmed infection, depending on concomitant diseases.
