The Medical Education Institute of Almazov Centre provides training in 27 specialties to more than 690 residents from 76 regions of Russia enabling them to master innovative medical technologies.
The spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and the shortage of primary care medical professionals required the municipal authorities and medical providers to turn to Almazov Centre for assistance.
As the residents continue their theoretical education using distance learning technologies, they are actively joining the medical work in this difficult and critical time. The Russian Health Ministry identified various forms of practical training for residents: interacting with social services for helping people in need of social assistance; delivering food, medicines and other essential supplies to people in self-isolation, participating in the provision of medical care in healthcare facilities, including those providing specialized medical care.
Residents having target training agreements went to their regions where they are employed in local health facilities. The residents of Almazov Centre receive practical training in the Republic of Karelia, the Republic of Tuva, the Chechen Republic, Kirov, Novgorod, Pskov, Samara regions and other regions of Russia. Clearly, the majority of residents undergo practical training in a new format in medical facilities of St. Petersburg and the region.
Currently, at the request of the St. Petersburg Health Committee, Almazov Centre forms stand-by teams of nurses and interns from among residents. We believe that even in a pandemic, students will gain invaluable practical experience and knowledge to be used in their future professional activities.
