The Head of Vascular and Interventional Surgery Research Department Mikhail Chernyavsky took part in the 5th China Vascular Congress, September 7 to 13, 2020.His presentation covered the experience of using the endovascular technique of fenestrated stent grafts implantation at Almazov National Medical Research Centre.
For the first time this intervention was performed in 2019 as a part of master class with the expert, professor, Chief Cardiovascular Surgeon of China, Head of the Vascular Surgery Department of the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases (Beijing), Dr. Chang Shu.
While this surgical intervention, a special device is used to form fenestration for the orifice of the subclavian artery after the graft is inserted into the aorta, and then a peripheral graft is installed in the orifice of the subclavian artery.
Previously, such patients had to undergo two-stage surgical treatment, but with the use of a fenestrated graft, carotid-subclavian cycling is no longer required. This technique allows minimizing intraoperative risks, complications and rehabilitation for patients with arch aneurysms and dissections of the thoracoabdominal aorta.
The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation approved clinical testing of this technology at the Almazov National Medical Research Centre to conduct further research on the patients’ management and treatment for the next 3 years.
