On October 29, the Webinar on Endovascular and Hybrid Treatments for Patients with Peripheral Arterial Disease was held under the auspices of the Russian Scientific Society of Specialists in X-ray Endovascular Diagnosis and Treatment.
The webinar brought together specialists from leading cardiovascular centres of Russia. The webinar started with the welcome words by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Bagrat Alekyan and Director of Meshalkin National Medical Research Centre, Professor Alexander Chernyavsky. Academician Alekyan noted that currently insufficient attention is given to endovascular procedures on peripheral arteries although endovascular techniques are well developed and specialists in endovascular diagnosis and treatment have the necessary experience and qualifications. In this context, such conferences and seminars are absolutely necessary for the development of endovascular and hybrid vascular surgery.
The heads of research and clinical departments of the Russia’s leading cardiovascular centres highlighted that minimally invasive hybrid and endovascular procedures should be the treatment of choice in patients with peripheral arterial disease, especially in the presence of major comorbidity.
Head of the Research Department for Vascular and Interventional Surgery of Almazov National Medical Research Centre Mikhail Chernyavsky spoke on minimally invasive technologies for occlusion of the terminal aorta, and Junior Researcher at the Research Laboratory of Vascular and Hybrid Surgery Nikolai Zherdev presented the latest data on drug technologies, their safety and effectiveness for lower extremity arterial lesions.
Despite the online format, the webinar covered almost all key issues of medical care: from elective surgery and revascularization strategy to the technical features of multilevel vascular reconstructive procedures. It should not be forgotten that peripheral arterial disease is a socially significant disease, and there is no doubt about the need to conduct more frequent online and offline meetings contributing to the development of the field in general and each angiologist in particular.
