The interregional scientific and practical conference with international participation Cerebral Circulation: Information, Experience, School was held online on November 21.
The event was dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the vascular centre network for stroke care.
The first six vascular centres for patients with stroke were created ten years ago, and the establishment of clinical and diagnostic units began. However, already then it was clear that this was not enough. The Stroke Council was established under the St. Petersburg Health Committee. It was headed by the city's chief neurologist and leading experts in angioneurology who acted as decision makers for the progressive development and improvement of hospitals for stroke care. Later, from 2014 to 2016, the joint efforts of the city's neurologists, the Government of St. Petersburg, the Health Committee and the Territorial Fund of Compulsory Medical Insurance made it possible to bring ten more facilities and form a full-fledged two-tier network comprising today sixteen vascular centres for stroke care.
Director General of Almazov Centre, Academician of the RAS Evgeny Shlyakhto welcomed the participants.
“I am sure that this event will contribute to the development of a vascular centre network and help strengthen cooperation with peers,” highlighted Evgeny Shlyakhto.
The versatile programme and a breadth of participants make this year’s conference one of the most prominent medical events.
Head of the regional vascular centre at Almazov Centre Kayum Simakov presented the results of its development in 2015–2020.
Other regional heads also shared their experience and knowledge. The experts discussed other issues such as secondary prevention of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation, treatment of acute cerebrovascular accident in elderly and senile patients, intravascular thromboembolectomy in ischemic stroke, and much more.
Despite the online format due to coronavirus pandemic, the event brought together the representatives of the medical community and provided a platform for them to exchange new information and discuss the topical issues.
