On March 29, an online meeting was held between Alberico L. Catapano, Professor of Pharmacology, Department of Pharmacological and Biomolecular Sciences, Director of the Centre of Epidemiology and Preventive Pharmacology of the University of Milan, and representatives of Almazov Centre headed by Director General Evgeny Shlyakhto in order to sign the MoU for the development of research projects as part of the World-Class Research Centre for Personalized Medicine.
The World-Class Research Centre for Personalized Medicine will implement two projects jointly with the University of Milan: “Development of personalized programmes for the treatment of familial hypercholesterolemia based on phenotype and genotype profiles of patients” and “Centre for biomodelling of pathological processes using genome editing technologies.”
The signing of the MoU with the University of Milan and cooperation with Professor Catapano, who has been a Visiting Professor at Almazov Centre since 2019, are vital for the activities of the Centre for Personalized Medicine. It is planned, among other things, to establish a Competence Centre for the study of experimental models of atherosclerosis in order to enable comprehensive diagnosis of patients with familial hypercholesterolemia, including genetic and cascade screening, if indicated.
