Three young researchers of Almazov Centre won the Governmental Grant Competition for young scientists and PhD holders of Saint Petersburg. Among the projects that won were:
- «Study of the impact of extracellular vesicles on the activation of the coagulation system and coagulopathy pathogenesis in COVID-19» by Yulia Zhilenkova, Associate Professor of the Laboratory Medicine and Genetics Department, Institute of Medical Education
- “The role of non-quantal acetylcholine release in the regulation of skeletal muscle growth in health and disease: the importance of Na+,K±ATPase” by Natalya Pasatetskaya, Junior Researcher, Research Department of Experimental Physiology and Pharmacology
- “A method to repair coarctation of the aorta with distal aortic arch hypoplasia” by Ivan Kozyrev, cardiovascular surgeon, Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery Department
Two more young researchers of Almazov Centre won the Governmental Grant Competition for young students of Saint Petersburg:
- “Study of the skeletal muscle transcriptome in patients with heart failure using RNA sequencing” by Oksana Ivanova, 2-year PhD student in Cell Biology
The study was carried out by the Cell Biology Group at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics jointly with the doctors of Almazov Centre.
- “Radiofrequency denervation of the pulmonary artery in a model of acute pulmonary arterial hypertension in pigs” by Elizaveta Andreeva, research assistant at the Neuromodulation Research Laboratory
The work was carried out on large laboratory animals at the Preclinical Translational Research Centre under the supervision of Dr. Evgeny Mikhailov, Chief Researcher of the Neuromodulation Research Laboratory. The research group consisted of cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons and veterinarians. The obtained results improve the understanding of the technique and the experience of using it on animals will help surgeons to successfully operate on patients in the future. The work on this project is still ongoing.
