On February 8, Science Day was held at the Boiling Point Coworking Space of Almazov Centre. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event was held virtually. The program featured unique lectures from the prominent experts of the Centre’s scientific community. In his welcome speech, Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko expressed gratitude to Russian scientists for the millions of lives saved thanks to their discoveries and inventions. This welcome was followed by the greeting address from Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Alexei Medvedev who highlighted the growing importance of involving young people in science, putting forward new ideas and training highly qualified medical professionals.
Director General of Almazov Centre Evgeny Shlyakhto congratulated the students and young scientists on the Science Day. He spoke about modern trends and innovations in the field of medical education and an ecosystem where science, education and practical healthcare closely interact, and also introduced the prospects for medical education.
Dean of the Medical Faculty Galina Kukharchik spoke about the issues of modeling and individual educational trajectories, clearly demonstrated the model of medical education and the features of educational trajectories at the Medical Education Institute of Almazov Centre.
Deputy Director General for Research Alexandra Konradi delivered a vivid lecture on a scientific career in the modern world, shared relevant information from the world of medical science, spoke in detail about the difficulties in the path of a young scientist, traits of an ideal research adviser, coping with an imposter syndrome and shared advice on routine practices that can be useful not only to novice researchers but also to more experienced scientists.
Director of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics Anna Kostareva gave a lecture on basic medical science. She shared her personal experience in this field, spoke in detail about what a young clinician needs today to pursue science and presented the challenges of modern biological science.
Lectures devoted to the Day of Russian Science are undoubtedly a unique asset that serves not only as a general educational experience shaping a scientific worldview, but also motivates young people to pursue science and conduct their own research. All participants gained valuable insights on the pathway of a young scientist straight from student’s years, shaping of scientific thinking, prospects and innovations in the field of modern medical education.
