This year marks 12 years since the first heart transplantation was performed at Almazov Centre. The Centre has performed 184 heart transplants to date, including 11 pediatric transplants in children aged 10 to 16.
Our specialists shared their experience, knowledge and results with the participants of the 7th Postgraduate Conference on Treatment of End-Stage CHF and Therapeutic Aspects of Heart Transplantation that took place from January 31 to February 11 at Almazov Centre and was led by Pyotr Fedotov, Head of the Research Laboratory of High-Tech Methods for Heart Failure Treatment. The Conference was held in hybrid format and brought together cardiologists, general practitioners, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, intensivists, cardiac surgeons as well as clinical residents and students of medical universities.
The cycle featured 35 lectures by doctors of various specialties: transplant cardiologists (P. A. Fedotov, M. A. Simonenko, Yu. V. Sazonova), anesthesiologists (A. E. Bautin, A. O. Marichev), immunogeneticists (O. Ya. Volkova), functional testing specialists (T. A. Lelyavina, E. L. Urumova), clinical pharmacologists (K. I. Monosova).
Professor M. Yu. Sitnikova, Head of the Heart Failure Research Department, spoke about the specific features of managing patients with heart failure. Dr. G. V. Nikolaev, chief visiting transplantologist of St. Petersburg Health Committee, official transplantation expert from Russia in the Council of Europe (Strasbourg, France), Head of the Research Laboratory of Thoracic Surgery spoke about donation and surgical stages. Director of the Institute of Perinatology and Pediatrics T. M. Pervunina presented the experience of heart transplantation in children. Special emphasis was put on comorbidity after transplantation: relevant presentations were given by infectious disease specialist A. G. Dyachkov and endocrinologist A. I. Tsiberkin. The specialists discussed the criteria for referring patients for the selection of heart transplant candidates and the management of patients in the early and late periods after surgery.
Participating doctors discussed the issues regarding the management of patients with heart failure, personalized therapy after heart transplantation as well as the treatment of complications and diseases in the post-transplant period, including COVID-19 in patients. The 8th Postgraduate Conference on Treatment of End-Stage CHF and Therapeutic Aspects of Heart Transplantation is scheduled for January 30 – February 10, 2023.
