A research team from Almazov Centre, which is developing a multidisciplinary approach to the problem of prolonged disorders of consciousness, took part in the World Coma Day on March 22, 2022. World Coma Day is organized by a professional community of experts from the US and Europe as a virtual event targeting a global audience and is a part of an ongoing clinical and scientific endeavor to improve coma care.
During this event, leading medical experts share their experience and stories about new successful treatments for patients with impaired consciousness. Moreover, the attendees also have the opportunity to view shout out videos from doctors, patients and families from all over the world.
The World Coma Day provides a global virtual platform for participation of clinicians and scientists, with an overarching goal of expanding global cooperation in the development of rehabilitation programs for patients with disorders of consciousness, encouraging specialists across the globe to come together and participate in current and future research on disorders of consciousness.
Representatives of Almazov Centre took part in the Dream Team section as one of the world’s first research teams, which for several years has been successfully implementing multidisciplinary approaches to the problem of impaired consciousness at the genetic and metabolomic levels, with a detailed study of biochemical, neuroimaging, neurophysiological prognostic markers for the recovery of consciousness. The work of the Russian research group was supported by a grant from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.
It should be noted that representatives of Russia were invited to participate in this large-scale scientific event for the first time.
