From May 23 to 27, Almazov Centre held its annual scientific and practical seminar on Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders.
Among the leading experts were: Prof. Yuri Yashkov, Honorary President of the Society of Bariatric Surgery; President of the IFSO-European Chapter in 2012–2014; Alexander Neumark, Ex-President of the Society of Bariatric Surgery.
This year’s event brought together attendees from all around Russia. For five consecutive days they listened to online and onsite lectures by eminent experts in bariatric surgery and discussed clinical cases.
The program of the seminar was aimed at showing the entire cycle of managing patients with obesity (preparation for treatment, choosing the type of surgical procedure, vitamin support, psychological considerations before and after bariatric surgery). Also, there were live broadcasts of surgical procedures performed by leading experts of the Society of Bariatric Surgery: B. Khatsiev (Stavropol); A. Neumark (St. Petersburg); E. Zorin (Moscow); I. Elagin (Moscow); V. Samoilov (Voronezh); V. Fedenko (Moscow); V. Evdoshenko (Moscow); N. Bordan (Moscow); M. Burikov (Rostov-on-Don).
It is worth noting that obesity remains one of the world's largest health problems and Russia is ranked fifth in the world for obesity rates. Obesity is a medical problem and obese patients should seek professional medical help when they cannot deal with it all on their own.
