On June 8, the Russian-Chinese Conference on the Development of Emergency Medicine and Exchange of Experience in COVID-19 Prevention in Chinese and European Medicine took place online. The meeting was organized by the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, Guangdong Province Hospital Association, Guangdong Provincial Central Hospital and Guangdong Second People's Hospital, with the support from the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Guangzhou.
The conference brought together healthcare executives of Saint Petersburg and Guangdong Province.
The meeting started with welcome remarks by:
- Liu Mingjuan, First Vice Chairman and General Secretary of the Guangdong Province Hospital Association,
- Marina Chumurina, Vice Consul of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Guangzhou,
- Andrei Sarana, First Deputy Chairman of the Health Committee,
- Huang Li, Chairman of the Guangdong Province Hospital Association,
- Xu Qingfeng, Head of Bureau of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Guangdong Province.
Representatives of both countries stated the importance of interaction between the countries during the COVID-19 pandemic and noted the intensity of bilateral contacts at all levels despite difficult conditions.
The first presentation was by Zhang Zhongde, Vice Rector of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Deputy Chief of Guangdong Provincial Central Hospital and was entitled “Rehabilitation, prevention and treatment for COVID-19 patients in Chinese medicine.”
Anesthesiologist of the Alexandrovskaya Hospital Dmitry Buzanov presented the experience of the hospital in weaning of mechanically ventilated patients with COVID-19 after prolonged respiratory support and spoke about comprehensive rehabilitation for severe coronavirus infection.
Tatyana Karonova, Head of the Research Laboratory of Novel Coronavirus Infection and Post-COVID Syndrome of WCRC for Personalized Medicine, Chief Researcher of Clinical Endocrinology Laboratory, Professor of Endocrinology Department of Almazov Centre, gave a presentation on the provision of medical care to COVID-19 patients at Almazov Centre. She noted that the units of the Centre were repurposed to treat COVID-19 patients three times and the Centre’s multidisciplinary team provided highly specialized care for COVID-19 patients during the pandemic.
Zide Deng, Head of the Infectious Diseases Department of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, spoke about the features of a new coronavirus infection, prevention and spread of its variant strains.
The second part of the conference was devoted to discussing the quality management in medicine and emergency medical care for patients with a new coronavirus infection. The participants of the discussion were Guo Jun, Deputy Director of the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University; Ju Hongying, Chief of the Guangdong Second People's Hospital; Hongke Zeng, Head of Critical Care Medicine, Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital; XingTao Liu, Head of the Emergency Department of the Guangdong Second People's Hospital.
The Russian speakers were Chief of St. Petersburg State Mariinsky City Hospital Anatoly Zavrazhnov; Deputy Director for Research, Dzhanelidze Research Institute of Emergency Medicine, Igor Voznyuk and Head of Clinical Toxicology Department of Dzhanelidze Research Institute of Emergency Medicine Alexei Lodyagin.
In closing, Huang Li, Chairman of the Guangdong Province Hospital Association, thanked the Russian colleagues, praised the high level of the presentations and noted the importance of international scientific discussions. He emphasized that this conference served as a platform for the exchange of ideas on current issues of COVID-19 treatment and prevention and expressed hope for further strengthening of cooperation between the relevant institutions of St. Petersburg and Guangdong province.
