NCDs Epidemiology Research Laboratory
Oxana Rotar, MD, DSc
Chief Researcher
To date, there is not enough reliable data in Russia on the epidemiology, incidence structure and risk factors of cardiovascular disease. For this purpose, the Research Laboratory for Epidemiology of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) was established in Almazov Centre in May 2009. Currently, the Laboratory is involved in a few promising epidemiological projects.
Participation in State Assignments
- “Sampling and screening of the population based on the sample formed in 12 constituent entities of the Russian Federation presenting different regions according to their geographic location, demographic characteristics and climatic and ecological characteristics. Analysis of the prevalence of risk factors, risk stratification and construction of an epidemiological model of cardiovascular risk in the Russian Federation” (completion period: 2012—2014, supervised by A.O. Konradi).
- “Conducting an in-depth examination, dynamic observation of risk factors in 5 large regions on the basis of specialized research centres” (completion period: 2012—2014, supervised by A.O. Konradi).
- “Assessment of the role of traditional and new (including genomic and epigenomic) risk factors for cardiovascular mortality and morbidity based on dynamic observation of a cohort of Russian patients” (completion period: 2015—2017, supervised by A.O. Konradi).
- “Search for mechanisms of accelerated aging of the vascular wall and targets for its deceleration” (completion period: 2018—2020, supervised by A.O. Konradi).

The main goal of the study is optimization of stroke secondary prevention; participation in the project since 2013.
- Advanced Approach to Arterial Stiffness (AAA Study — Triple A Study)
The aim of this study is to assess the role of MetS on the arterial mechanics and vascular health in different age groups using the Cardio Ankle Vascular Index (CAVI) of the Vasera system and the “classic” carotid-femoral Pulse Wave Velocity (SphygmoCor); participation in the project since 2014.
- Participation in large clinical trials that have changed the global cardiology practice: a multi-center, prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study to evaluate the effect of AMR101 on cardiovascular health and mortality in hypertriglyceridemic patients with cardiovascular disease or at high risk for cardiovascular disease: REDUCE-IT (Reduction of Cardiovascular Events with EPA – Intervention Trial). A multi-center study to evaluate safety and tolerability in patients with chronic heart failure and reduced ejection fraction from the PARADIGM-HF trial.
