On April 27–29, Almazov Centre hosted the International Research-to-Practice Conference on Innovations in Endocrinology 2023. The event was held as part of the Programme of the World-Class Research Centre for Personalized Medicine.
Organizers of the conference were Almazov National Medical Research Centre, St. Petersburg Professional Medical Association of Endocrinology and Society of Bariatric Surgery.
The scientific programme focused on personalized diagnostic and treatment tactics, the choice of optimal treatment methods based on the EBM principles and the current needs of modern clinical practice, interdisciplinary interaction between doctors, as well as the analysis of data on changes in the quality of life over the course of treatment.
Experts discussed a wide range of endocrinology topics, including laboratory diagnostics in thyroidology and endocrinology, management of patients with diabetic foot syndrome, and medical care of patients with post-transplant diabetes mellitus.
Of great interest to the audience were issues related to pituitary gland disorders, such as screening for acromegaly in patients with hyperprolactinemia, prediction of the outcome of transsphenoidal adenomectomy in Cushing's disease, predictors of acromegaly persistence after surgical treatment, clinical and immunohistochemical features of inactive pituitary adenomas. Leading Russian experts were invited to the discussion.
Over the course of the conference, experts discussed in detail the combination of endocrine diseases and COVID-19, diabetes and pregnancy, and what determines the growth and development of the fetus in women with diabetes.
The conference covered the most relevant aspects of cardiac endocrinology. There were presentations on the association of single nucleotide polymorphisms with cardiometabolic disorders during glucocorticoid therapy, the choice of treatment tactics for amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis in a patient with a low ejection fraction, atrial fibrillation in thyrotoxicosis, heart failure and metabolic syndrome.
Part of the scientific programme was devoted to topical issues of pediatric endocrinology. These included the diagnosis of congenital hyperinsulinism in children, menstrual disorders in obese adolescent girls, molecular and genetic characteristics of children with growth hormone deficiency, etc.
The versatile three-day programme included lectures, plenary sessions, scientific symposia, workshops, clinical case discussions, e-posters, and training sessions for practitioners.
The event brought together endocrinologists, pediatricians, general practitioners, gynecologists, neurosurgeons, endocrine and bariatric surgeons. Oncologists, morphologists, MRI, CT, ultrasound and other specialists participated in interdisciplinary discussions.
The conference also featured a meeting with representatives of the Russian Osteoporosis Association and an exhibition of medical equipment and pharmaceutical products.
