Dr. Ilya Kagantsov, Head of the Research Laboratory for Surgery of Congenital and Hereditary Diseases at Almazov Centre, a Board certified paediatric surgeon, recently visited Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, where he held a masterclass for colleagues from the Istiqlol Clinic.
The surgeon performed complex reconstructive surgeries, including primary repair of bladder exstrophy; repeat surgery for urethral stricture; surgery for disorders of sex development; repeat surgery for congenital urethral anomalies (hypospadias); ureteral neoimplantation.
In total, 16 children with complex genitourinary malformations and various urological anomalies were examined and operated on during the master class.
«Unfortunately, the incidence of genitourinary disorders and malformations is increasing, and in children of the first year of life it accounts for more than 20% of all urological diseases. That is why I consider it extremely important to share my experience and knowledge of modern approaches and techniques of surgical treatment for genitourinary system defects with colleagues in Russia and abroad,» emphasized Dr. Ilya Kagantsov.
