On the 22nd of May, the Medical Sciences Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) held a meeting of its Commission on the Best Academic School of Thought, which is responsible for the annual evaluation of the activity and work of the members of the Clinical Medicine Department of the Medical Sciences Division of the RAS. The Commission is an instrument within the approved system of evaluation of research activities based on the results of the reporting year.
The meeting unanimously decided to award Evgeny Shlyakhto, Director General of Almazov Centre and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, with the Medal of Honour for the best academic school of thought in clinical medicine.
Another recipient of the award was Marine Tanashan, Deputy Director for Research of the Research Centre of Neurology, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The award was presented by Academician Vladimir Starodubov, Secretary of the Medical Sciences Division of the RAS, a member of the RAS Presidium. The first awarding ceremony took place on June 7 in the large conference hall of the historic building of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences and was attended by leading Russian scientists, members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Academy of Education and other organisations and was timed to coincide with the birthday of Academician Nikolai Burdenko, the founder of the Academy of Medical Sciences, whose image adorns a diploma and a medal.
