From 14 to 16 September, the specialists of the Department of Urology with a robotic surgery course and clinic took part in the XXIII Congress of the Russian Society of Urology held in Kazan. The congress is a major annual event that brings together delegates from different countries to exchange knowledge and experience in urology.
Dr. Mikhail Mosoyan, Head of the Department of Urology with a robotic surgery course and clinic, Board Member of the Russian Society of Urology, chaired the session on prostate cancer, which is always of great interest to the expert community.
The Department’s research and surgical results were summarized and presented in three presentations.
The presentation «Ways of optimizing the surgical technique of robot-assisted kidney resection» (M. Mosoyan, E. Gilev, D. Fedorov) by E. Gilev, Assistant of the Department, sparked great interest. The results of 135 kidney resections using innovative techniques, including 3 patented methods, were presented. This work is important for improving the outcomes of surgical treatment of kidney cancer.
A. Vasiliev, Assistant of the Department, gave a presentation entitled «Evaluation of the effectiveness of PET/CT combined with MRI for detection of clinically significant prostate cancer» (M. Mosoyan, A. A. Vasiliev). This study, carried out by the Department's staff, made it possible to improve the diagnosis of prostate cancer and increase the detection rate of clinically significant cases of this disease.
At the session «Teaching Urology at Medical University», N. Aisina, Assistant of the Department, Head of the Residency Department of the Institute of Medical Education, gave a presentation entitled «Modern approaches to teaching clinical disciplines using the example of urology: innovative universal teaching and methodological system for medical universities» (M. Mosoyan, N. Aisina). The innovative teaching system developed by the Department's staff was awarded the St. Petersburg Government Prize for Outstanding Achievements in Higher Education and Secondary Professional Education in 2022. Rector of the Bashkir State Medical University, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor V. Pavlov and Jean De La Rosette, Prof. Dr., Vice-President of the International Society of Urology, Urologist at Istanbul Medipol University Hospital (Istanbul, Turkey) showed particular interest in the new methodology.
The XXIV Congress of the Russian Society of Urology is scheduled for 2024 in St. Petersburg. The staff of the Department of Urology with a robotic surgery course and clinic will be actively involved in the preparation and running of this event.
