The Asian Society for Vascular Surgeons (ASVS) is a professional association of vascular surgeons with more than 30 years of history. The annual ASVS congresses are held in major cities across Asia such as Singapore, Bangkok, Seoul and Hong Kong and bring together hundreds of participants from 16 member countries. This year’s edition, the 24th Asian Society for Vascular Surgery Congress was held in conjunction with the 18th Asian Venous Forum in Antalya, Turkey from 30 November to 3 December 2023.
The ASVS 2023 congress was held in collaboration with Turkish Society for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and Turkish Society of Phlebology. The heads of these societies approached the Russian Association of Phlebologists and the Russian Society of Angiologists and Vascular Surgeons with a proposal to organize a series of sessions on venous and arterial topics. The scientific programme focused on vascular disorders, including the treatment of aortic diseases, carotid arteries, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, venous insufficiency and vascular injuries. The congress brought together 1650 specialists from 34 countries, including 50 foreign speakers. There were 208 oral presentations and 271 posters.
The specialists of the Research Department of Vascular and Interventional Surgery of Almazov Centre gave three oral presentations and presented one poster. Their presentations covered all modern trends in the treatment of vascular disease: total endovascular treatment of aortic arch disease, minimally invasive endovascular and hybrid technologies for the treatment of multilevel lesions of the brachiocephalic arteries and atherosclerotic lesions of the aorto-iliac segment, as well as minimally invasive technologies for venous disease. The experience of the Centre’s vascular surgeons was highly praised by experts and colleagues from abroad and was of great interest, as the use of many technologies is still limited in some countries.
Participation in international congresses and conferences is important for specialists to share knowledge, learn new technologies and treatment methods, establish new collaborations, meet face-to-face with experts, which provides an opportunity to generate ideas and solve many problems and common tasks in vascular surgery.
