From December 8 to 9, the annual congress with international participation Heart Failure 2023 took place in Moscow. It was organized by the Society of Heart Failure Specialists. During the two days of the event, specialists from Almazov Centre gave 22 oral presentations and presented 4 posters.
There was a special focus on cardio-oncology. The symposium «Severe Heart Failure and Cancer: Known or Unexplored Territory?» featured presentations by P. Fedotov, Head of the Laboratory of High-Tech Methods for Heart Failure Treatment, and transplant surgeon Yu. Sazonova, Assistant of the Intermediate Level Therapy Department «Heart transplantation in patients with primary cardiac sarcoma: the experience of Almazov National Medical Centre» and transplant surgeon M. Simonenko «Prevention, management difficulties and prognosis in the development of cancer after heart transplantation». Delegates showed great interest in the presentation by Professor O. Moiseeva, Director of the Institute of Heart and Vessels, entitled «Cardiotoxicity of checkpoint inhibitors».
Rehabilitation and palliative care sessions have become an integral part of recent congresses of the Society of Heart Failure Specialists. The organization and ideology of the sessions are entirely the responsibility of the Almazov Centre specialists – Dr. T. Lelyavina, leading researcher of the Research Department of Microcirculation and Myocardial Metabolism, and Dr. M. Sitnikova, leading researcher of the Research Laboratory of High-Tech Methods for Heart Failure Treatment. The annual master classes were devoted to the peculiarities of mechanical circulatory support, modern concepts of failure of the transplanted heart, as well as the prognosis of heart transplantation in children and the difficulties of their transition to the adult group.
In the competition of young scientists, L. Dmitruk, graduate of clinical residency in cardiology at the Department of Intermediate Level Therapy, Institute of Medical Education, took 2nd place with the presentation «Importance of extracorporeal photopheresis in the treatment of heart transplant rejection» (supervisors: P. Fedotov, G. Baratashvili, M. Simonenko). L. Korneva, junior researcher at the Heart Failure Research Department, also took part in the competition with a presentation entitled «Acid-base status indicators as markers of exercise safety in inotrope-dependent CHF patients – candidates for heart transplantation» (L. Korneva, B. Musaeva, M. Bortsova, P. Fedotov, E. Demchenko, M. Sitnikova, M. Osipova).
Also, four posters were presented by young specialists and students of Almazov Centre (D. Leskov, V. Galenko, A. Ryabova, B. Musaeva).
