President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin has awarded the Pirogov Medal of Honour to Mikhail Galagudza, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Professor Mikhail Galagudza is the Director of the Institute of Experimental Medicine and Head of the Department of Pathological Physiology at the Institute of Medical Education of Almazov Centre.
His research interests focus on the mechanisms of myocardial protection against ischaemia-reperfusion injury and the development of targeted drug delivery using nanocarriers. Seven doctoral theses for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences were successfully defended under his supervision.
The award honours doctors for their selfless service in emergencies, epidemics, military actions and other dangerous circumstances; for merits in medical practice and for highly effective initiatives in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of particularly dangerous diseases.
