Laboratory of Cerebrovascular Disease
Head of Laboratory
The Research Laboratory of Cerebrovascular Disease was established in 1971 by Director of the Leningrad Research Institute of Neurosurgery named after A.L. Polenov, Honored Scientist, Professor Veniamin Ugryumov.
Major research areas
- Studying the mechanisms of cerebral circulation and developing methods for early diagnosis and prediction of cerebrovascular dysregulation in patients with various neurosurgical conditions.
- Developing a system for assessing and predicting cerebral blood flow disorders and determining the indications and timing for surgical treatment in the acute and late periods following aneurysm rupture and brain injury using the frequency analysis of slow-wave oscillations in systemic and cerebral hemodynamics
- Studying the pathogenesis of circulatory disorders in the perinidal area of arteriovenous malformations and the mechanism of blood flow redistribution in the territories of afferent vessels at different stages of embolization using new methods for measuring the degree of their exclusion through the combined use of duplex scanning of the precerebral arteries and monitoring of linear velocity in the basilar vessels.
- Identifying the informative predictors of stroke in patients with carotid artery stenosis and occlusion to clarify the indications for surgical repair during perioperative monitoring of cerebral blood flow autoregulation rate and flow velocity index in precerebral arteries.
- Developing a software and hardware system for non-invasive real-time diagnostics of the state of cerebral blood flow autoregulation.
