Federal Telehealth Centre
In order to coordinate and develop telemedicine technologies, in April 2016, Almazov Centre instituted a Telehealth Centre fully equipped with all the necessary technology and equipment to provide real-time telehealth consultations as well as delayed consultations based on medical records.
Today, the Centre’s specialists provide doctor-to-doctor teleconsultations in 19 areas to any clinic in Russia. More than 120 consultants include leading specialists and heads of departments of medical institutes and clinical departments.
The remote consultation system is successfully used in the clinic to process a request electronically. The latest telecommunications equipment ensures high-quality and seamless communication as well as patients’ privacy and protection of personal data. Telehealth consultation takes place within a clearly defined timeframe according to the regulations.
Today, the Centre provides telehealth services across three areas:
• Remote telehealth consultations
• Remote telemetry (telediagnosis)
• Telelearning
Telehealth consultations and remote monitoring
Telehealth consultations and case conferences form the core of telemedicine services. According to the results of 6 months of 2016, about 3,000 patients from Russian regions and abroad benefited from remote consultations at Almazov Centre, and more than half of them were admitted for treatment in our clinic. Telehealth consultations based on medical records provide a convenient and affordable option for patients from any regional medical facility as a preliminary selection for hospitalization. A telehealth case conference is held at the initiative of the Centre’s consultant in difficult or rare and diagnostically challenging cases (often in the presence of the patient).
Remote telemetry (telediagnosis)
Another area of telemedicine services offered by the Centre is the primary interpretation of CT, magnetic resonance imaging, Holter, EEG, ECG and ultrasound studies (including a second opinion) and online telediagnosis. With the widespread introduction of radiological imaging methods, teleradiology consultations are on the rise. Also in demand are consultations on the results of endoscopy and various microscopic, cytological studies.
Telelearning
As part of continuing postgraduate education, it is planned to organize educational modules, webinars and master classes in 34 specialties, residency preparatory courses and health training sessions for patients.
