Since 2009, Almazov Centre has been performing surgery using the da Vinci S system (Intuitive, USA).

The robotic surgical system has significant advantages over endovideosurgery and especially open surgery. Robotic-assisted surgery offers all the benefits of other forms of minimally invasive surgery, including less blood loss, less pain, fewer adhesions, shorter hospital stays and rapid rehabilitation. For the surgeon, the benefits include: an enhanced visual field, high precision, reduced surgeon fatigue and better outcomes of surgery in general. Robotic-assisted procedures are performed for thoracic, abdominal and pelvic organs.

Almazov Centre pioneered the robotic-assisted surgery in the north-west region. In 2011, the robot-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy was performed for the first time in Russia. Doctors of the Centre have extensive experience in such surgery for cancers of genitourinary, digestive and endocrine systems. They have performed more than 700 robotic-assisted procedures for urological conditions over 9 years.

The Robotic Surgery Centre was established in 2016 to implement clinical, scientific and educational programs. Its clinical units include Urology Department, Cancer Surgery Department and Perinatal Centre. Today, there are two robotic systems: da Vinci S and da Vinci Si. They are used to perform such procedures as radical prostatectomy, cystoprostatectomy, kidney resection, nephrectomy, including inferior vena cava thrombectomy, pelvic reconstructive surgery, adrenalectomy, surgical removal of diaphragmatic hernias, surgery for severe pelvic organ prolapse in women, for ovarian and uterine tumors, hysterectomy and other procedures. The whole new direction for the treatment of colorectal cancer is being developed. The major goal of robotic surgery is to ensure the most effective and at the same time minimally invasive procedure while providing a high quality of life for patients.
