Focus areas: mechanisms of myocardial protection against ischemia-reperfusion injury, development of targeted drug delivery using nanocarriers.
2000 – graduated magna cum laude from the Pavlov First Saint Petersburg State Medical University; started a full-time PhD program in the Department of Pathophysiology.
Since 2000 – successively worked at the Department of Pathophysiology of the Pavlov First Saint Petersburg State Medical University as a senior research assistant, assistant, associate professor, professor.
2002 – defended ahead of time his PhD thesis in Pathologic Physiology entitled «Comparative evaluation of the cardioprotective efficacy of local and distant ischemic adaptation of the myocardium» dedicated to myocardial protection against ischemia injury in the experiment.
2003–2004 – long-term academic visit at the Karolinska Institute (Sweden) and the University of Oslo (Norway).
2007 – defended his doctoral thesis on the topic «Pre- and postconditioning as ways to protect the myocardium against ischemia-reperfusion injury»
2007 – Head of Research Laboratory of Myocardial Metabolism, Almazov Federal Heart, Blood and Endocrinology Centre (Almazov National Medical Research Centre).
2009 – present – Director of the Institute of Experimental Medicine, Almazov Centre.
2018 — Head of Pathology Department, Medical Faculty, Institute of Medical Education.
Completed advanced training courses «Rules for the organization and conduct of preclinical studies of drugs – GLP» (2012), «Equipment and organization of a vivarium for small laboratory SPF rodents» (2013).
In 2016, Mikhail Galagudza the title of a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences for scientific contribution to studying of cardiovascular pathophysiology.

- Development of a software and hardware system for remote myocardial conditioning based on local abdominal decompression.
- Development and optimization of toxicity testing protocol for substances with a molecular weight of more than 3 kDa in fish (Zebra fish).
