Different components of metabolic syndrome and risk factors can play independent role in the development of target-organ damage
Different components of metabolic syndrome and risk factors can play independent role in the development of target-organ damage. The aim of our study was to assess the relation of metabolic syndrome (MS) with left ventricular mass index, arterial stiffness and carotid atherosclerosis in the population of mentally employed people. 1600 mentally working subjects (bank employers) were screened for MS. About 400 subjects who had at least one component of MS, who had no established cardiovascular events and severe concomitant diseases and who agreed to participate in the study passed echocardiography and carotid artery examination (Vivid 7). Pulse wave velocity (PWV) was performed by SphygmoCor (AtCor). MS was defined according to JIS-2009 criteria. The next phase of follow-up is expected in 2015.
